Following its premiere at Ochre Space in Lisbon, Ordeal by Roses (Ba-ra-kei) is now part of the official programme of FOLIO – International Literary Festival of Óbidos, celebrating the dialogue between photography, literature, and performance.

Ochre Space proudly presented a landmark exhibition celebrating the work of Japanese master photographer Eikoh Hosoe. Renowned as one of the most influential figures in Japanese photography, Hosoe’s work blended avant-garde aesthetics with profound explorations of identity, mythology, and human emotion. Prepared in collaboration with the artist before his recent passing, the exhibition marked Hosoe’s first-ever presentation in Portugal and the first worldwide since his death. It featured a carefully curated selection of images from the iconic Ordeal by Roses series, inspired by and centered on the enigmatic figure of Yukio Mishima. The centenary of Mishima’s birth made the exhibition a fitting homage to two monumental figures of Japanese art and culture.

Hosoe and Mishima: Together in Immortality
A closing conversation was held with São José Sousa, José Bértolo, and João Miguel Barros, marking the conclusion of the Eikoh Hosoe exhibition in Lisbon.
