Wang Zhengping Opens First Exhibition in Portugal at Ochre Space

Ochre Space is pleased to announce Mongolian Horse in North Wind, the first exhibition in Portugal by Chinese photographer Wang Zhengping, opening on 16 June 2026 at 18:00.

Born and raised in Inner Mongolia, Wang Zhengping has dedicated more than fifteen years to photographing the landscapes, traditions and horses of the Mongolian steppe. Developed since 2009, the project culminated in the publication of the acclaimed photobook Mongolian Horse in North Wind in Beijing in 2024.

Far from conventional wildlife photography, Wang’s work is deeply personal. The photographer describes the Mongolian horses he photographs as family, friends and reflections of himself. Through this long-term engagement with the steppe, he has created a body of work that combines documentary precision with a poetic and almost mythical sensibility.

The exhibition explores the central role of the horse within Mongolian culture, where it remains a powerful symbol of freedom, endurance and spiritual connection. At the same time, the photographs document ways of life increasingly challenged by rapid social and environmental transformation.

Curated by João Miguel Barros, the exhibition continues Ochre Space’s commitment to fostering dialogue between European and Asian photographic practices, with a particular focus on contemporary Chinese and Japanese photography.

The artist will be present at the opening reception on 16 June.
