A Yin’s −40°C Opens at Ochre Space
On 8 September, Ochre Space opened −40°C, a solo exhibition by Mongolian photographer A Yin, curated by João Miguel Barros.
The opening brought together visitors to discover a body of work developed over six winters in the remote grasslands of Inner Mongolia, where A Yin followed Mongolian horses through snowstorms and temperatures falling below −40°C.
Presented through black-and-white photographs and moving image, the exhibition reflects A Yin’s long-standing relationship with the grasslands, horses and nomadic culture of Inner Mongolia. For more than three decades, photography has been his way of documenting and preserving a cultural heritage deeply connected to this territory.
−40°C is the second exhibition in Ochre Space’s 2026 programme celebrating the Chinese Year of the Horse.
The exhibition remains on view at Ochre Space until 26 September 2026.
